Here is a project of underground house which is close to my heart. I wanted quiet and generous, with the idea of wasting the least possible area of garden. The house has only a single south-facing, fully glazed and offers bright spaces. Only a glass house at the bottom provides additional overhead lighting in the axis of distribution spaces.
Any length, it opens so generously onto a large terrace and landscape.
The advantage of being buried lies mainly in the thermal aspect of the building. Indeed, this depth, the temperature of the earth is constant, and the house benefits from an exceptional thermal inertia, we could not reach surface construction cost. The advanced band concrete south wall also protects the facade in the summer when the sun is highest in winter while the other hand, it lets in, and then heat the house.
A buried building, however, requires much isolate the building from water infiltration (polyethylene sheeting, waterproof treatment), but generally the cost of such construction is slightly less than conventional construction, the economy developed facades in particular.
