There was no real prison Thouars before installation of the central house in the castle in 1872.

However, those arrested and sentenced to Thouars Bressuire by the court were to be imprisoned for some time. Thus the two towers: at the door and Prevost turn Prince of Wales harbored individuals. Given its poor condition, the first was in service on a short term (early XIX). The second lost his office at the end of the nineteenth century after keeping within its walls and the salt smugglers from the Middle Ages.
